Happy International Youth Day 2020! Youth  make up more than 55% of Africa’s population yet most lack Access to infrastructure that would help better their lives. Take Kenya for instance.  From childhood we are told to value education. That it’s the key to success. And we do. We spend 16 years in school.( Some more, some less.) only to come out and find no jobs. So we have to be innovative and find new ways of surviving in this Country.  Our lives are a noir of sorts. Bittersweet. Yet we preserve, giving our all to our country yet reaping little. That’s why this year in line with the theme “Youth Engagement for Global Action ” we as the youth are humbly but firmly requesting that our engagement at the local/ community/grassroots level ,at the National and Global levels is increased. Give us more jobs, trainings, grants, bursaries, capital, access, board jobs, mentorship, and involve us in policy making decisions.  Above all, pay us. Abolish unpaid internships. The plight of the youth is one that we are energetic, full of ideas, time, vision and so on and so forth. Yet we lack capital and funding for our ideas, start-ups etc. The system is designed to oppress us after milking us dry and let me not get into the political of gender….

  As African youth, we are the present and future of Africa. Invest in us. Pass on the mantle to us. We are Africa and Africa is our business.Happy international Youth Day 2020!  Cheers!
